When googling authors, I came across this article by NPR from 2012 naming the "best" 100 YA books of all time. I thought some of you might want to check it out.
Can I think of 10?
1. Stephenie Meyer - I tried to read Twilight, but couldn't stomach it.
2. Chuck Palahniuk - He wrote Fight Club.
3. JK Rowling - She's probably the most popular one on the list. I don't generally like magical stories, troll-like creatures or major fantasy unless it's a good old-fashioned vampire book.
4. Bill Shakespeare - That's what my theatre prof used to call him. Although many of his plays were assigned to me in class over the years, I never could get into any of them. I just don't have a flair for the language.
5. Robert Ludlum - I've always wanted to read the Jason Bourne books. I've tried reading the first one several times, but it's just soooo thick and daunting!
6. Suzanne Collins - No Hunger Games for me.
7. William Goldman - I've owned "The Princess Bride" book for several years, but I haven't gotten around to reading it yet.
8. CS Lewis - The Chronicles of Narnia have also escaped me, although I may have dabbled with The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe at some point as a child.
9. John Grisham - No thank you to courtroom dramas.
10. Scott Westerfield - No pretties & uglies for me, yet.
I don't think I've read any of these either lol Great list!
ReplyDeleteJKR?! Agh, you are really missing out, it's gets less child-like and more dark in second half of the series.
ReplyDeleteMeyer is lame. I read all the books but am regretting it soooo...
Collins is awesome too, but Lewis could be better :)

It's pretty wicked cool to see who everyone hasn't read yet! AND it lets me feel better knowing everyone has at least ten popular authors they haven't read--I'm not alone!
ReplyDeleteSo I'm a pretty DEVOUT Potterhead, which BEGS me to ask you to reconsider your stance and read some HP! BUT that's because I am so deeply in love with them myself;) And The Hunger Games I LOVE, but you probably hear enough about these:p I don't blame you with the Shakespeare--I like to read retellings done in an easy language so it's not such a struggle, and I get the general idea of the story. Is that cheating?;)
I haven't read Stephanie Meyer either, but I didn't want to put her on my list since I don't ever intend to read her books, or at least none of her current ones.
ReplyDeleteI deffinitely recommend Suzanne Collins! (Except for Mockingjay...I have a sort of love/hate relationship with that one hahaha) Chuck Palahniuk almost made my list...I loved Fight Club (the movie).
ReplyDeleteAs for J.K. Rowling...well, I love HP but I grew up with it...it was probably the first "big" book that I read (considering I was like 7 or 8) and it stayed with me my whole life. I don't know how I would feel about it if I only read it at my age. But I still recommend you give it a try and keep in mind they become more "grown up" as the books go on :)
